Giving credence to teachers this National Teachers Month 2021

A Teacher 2

During this National Teachers Month (September 5-October 5, 2021), it is but fitting to give credence and utmost importance to our teachers all over the archipelago. On this national celebration, I couldn’t but remember and put emphasis on the contributions made by A Teachers Party-List, spearheaded by its president and chairman of the board Juliet R. Cortuna, a former Party-List representative, for the betterment of teachers.

On this National Teachers Month, we are also reminded of what National Artist for Literature F. Sionil Jose said: “The influence of teachers extends beyond the classroom, well into the future.”

And from former Rep. Cortuna herself, “Sa bawat Filipinong guro, at bawat guro sa buong mundo, salamat sa inyong di matatawaran at buong serbisyo. Ang A Teachers Party-List ay sumasaludo sa inyo. Maligayang Pambansang Buwan Ng Mga Guro!”

With the theme “Gurong Filipino: Katuwang sa Hamon, Kasama sa Pagbangon!” Rep. Cortuna also asked everyone to follow and subscribe to their social media accounts: Instagram: @ateacherspartylistph; Twitter: @AteacherPartyl1; YouTube: A TEACHERS Partylist.

During the pandemic, the A Teachers Party-List has initiated many worthwhile and vital projects to address the situation especially concerning teachers. Among these were A TEACHERS Tips and Tutorials (Paggawa Ng Google Email Accounts) and a Masterclass for teachers, students and parents.

A native of Occidental Mindoro, Rep. Cortuna is a dedicated educator but is not a teacher per se, meaning she wasn’t an education graduate. “Actually, I am an accountant by profession,” she said. She graduated with the degree of Science in Business Administration. She finished her master in Business Administration at De La Salle University, and her master in Public Administration at the University of the Philippines (with the highest honor, with 1.07 average!).

She added: “I am a researcher and health educator and I love to teach and share my knowledge and experience in business, agriculture, banking and finance, tourism and even public administration. For me, sharing my experiences and how I became what I am is the most fulfilling job in my entire life.

“I am not just teaching but educating individuals or groups based on what they need to know. Maybe the passion to share and my love for this through A TEACHERS Partylist as it’s representative is my way of fulfilling a dream to be a humanitarian individual.”

Among the projects spearheaded by A TEACHERS Partylist through the initiative and linkages made by Rep. Cortuna is a   bridge connecting the Minority School in Sitio Karyandangan, a Mangyan Village. Now, farmers are able to bring their produce to the main land, and students can now go to school using their bicycles and motor bikes. Both students and teachers can now walk and reach their school comfortably.  About 600 families are benefited by this bridge, Rep. Cortuna proudly said.
