Another reputable and dedicated public servant in the person of Senator Juan Miguel “Migz” Zubiri recently visited Nunungan, Lanao del Norte whose chief executive is the multi-awarded and highly respected Mayor Marcos Mamay. The visit on January 14, 2022 was for the groundbreaking of three milestone projects, which he led together with  Governor Angging Quibranza-Dimaporo, namely: the P10-Million Torogan House, the P3-Million Multi-purpose Building and Greening and Beautification Project by GN Power by providing four varieties of colorful trees to be planted along the highway from the boundaries of Sapad-Nunungan-Sultan-Naga-Dimaporo to Nunungan Lake.

In his speech, Senator Zubiri, who arrived in Nunungan by a chopper, promised to extend help to more projects in Nunungan as he has seen the municipality to have great potential in eco-tourism especially from the declaration of Mount Inayawan Natural Park as ASEAN Heritage.

It was noted with pride that Nunungan has three lakes, four  waterfalls, five  caves, having wide area of wild berries (raspberry) which has been featured in various networks, red clayeie type of soil which is another attraction of Nunungan, a motocross hub in Lanao del Norte. Nunungan is now working on strawberry farming.

Aside from Senator Zubiri, Deputy Speaker Loren Legarda and Sorsogon Governor  Chiz Escudero were also supposed to be in Nunungan for the January 14 event but were not able to make it due to various reasons. The other visitors included Vice Governor Atay, board members, 22 mayors, SB members of Nunungan, Barangay officials, the regional director of tourism, regional director of DENR-NEDA-DAR, provincials directors of the PNP and DILG and NGOs like Eagles-JCI.

During the groundbreaking program, Governor Imelda “Angging” Quibranza-Dimaporo said, “This Torogan house will serve as a museum for the tourists to see the beautiful and rich Maranao culture when they visit Nunungan Lake. Nunungan is positioned as the province’s premier ecotourism destination, and the proposed project embodies the strong connection between our cultural heritage and natural environment.”

Nunungan Mayor Mamay aims to make his  town one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in the province and making Mt. Inayawan Range Natural Park with its Nunungan lake to be the country’s 10th ASEAN Heritage Park. For this, Governor Dimaporo felt the need to all the more promote the Maranao culture and tradition through this P10-million Torogan house project.

Senator Zubiri also expressed awe for the natural beauty of Nunungan Lake and said, “Now that I have seen how beautiful this area is, I will help the mayor and the governor develop this as a superior tourism spot in Mindanao.”

“The peace and order of Nunungan have been restored, and it is no longer a place that we should be afraid to be in. It is already very beautiful and is earning attention not just at the national  but also in the international level,” Mayor Mamay said.

“We are very pleased that our town has finally gained the recognition that it deserves. We are exerting effort on how to make Nunungan a better place to live in and a competitive municipality not just in Lanao del Norte but the whole country,” Mayor Mamay added.

A greening activity was also conducted where over 3,00 seedlings of pink trumpet trees and 100 mancono trees were provided by the GN Power Kauswagan Ltd. Co, in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. People from different agencies like the PNP, AFP, DILG, DOT, DTI, DPWH, PIA, LANECO, PGLDN, Inner Wheel Club of Lanao del Norte, Lanao del Norte Mountaineering Club, JCI Panguil Bay, JCI Lanao Greenfields, and Eagles Club,  helped the planting of the soon to become forest foliage surrounding the majestic Nunungan Lake. Back on GMA Afternoon Prime, and bigger than before, is  “Prima Donnas Book 2.” This is the family drama that charmed Kapuso viewers into the heartwarming story of Donna Marie, Donna Belle and Doona Lyn.

The all-star cast excitedly returns to reprise their roles and once again step into the lives of the characters that Filipinos worldwide have come to love.

Bannering the show are three of GMA Network’s brightest and talented teen stars: Jillian Ward as Donna Marie, Althea Ablan as Donna Belle, Sofia Pablo as Donna Lyn – now heiresses to the Claveria family and are more than ready to showcase a different side to the beloved sisters.

Playing their well-loved characters once more are seasoned and highly-talented actors Katrina Halili as Lilian, Wendell Ramos as Jaime, Chanda Romero as Lady Prima, Benjie Paras as Agaton, James Blanco as Ruben, and the newest addition to the cast – Ms. Sheryl Cruz as Bethany Howards. The top-rated series promises more interesting twists, family revelations, and scenes that will leave viewers on the edges of their seats.

Back for vengeance is one of the industry’s formidable and multi-awarded actresses, Ms. Aiko Melendez as Kendra Fajardo.

Also returning to the highly-successful series are fast-rising teen stars Elijah Alejo as Brianna, Will Ashley as Nolan, Vince Crisostomo as Cedrick, Allen Michael Ansay as Fonsie, Bruce Roeland as Hugo.

The first season left its audience raving for more as it ended on a shocking note – Kendra is alive. Now that she’s back, she will do everything in her power to ruin Lilian and Jaime’s relationship, as well as take back the life that the three Donnas now enjoy.  More secrets will be unraveled, new characters will come into light, and the endless pursuit of happiness for the Claveria family lingers. How will they remain strong amidst the many challenges life throws at them?

Esteemed director Gina Alajar shared that while the story continues, it will be significantly different from the first season. “Of course, hindi maaalis yung awayan nina Lillian at Kendra. Hindi rin siyempre mawawala yung awayan nina Lillian at Bethany played by Sheryl Cruz,” she said. “Magkakaroon din ng awayan ang mga bata. Si Brianna at si Mayi, mayroon. Hindi natin sure kung alin doon ang susundan ng viewers but we make it a point na maging iba ‘yung show sa mga nagawa na namin.”

She further emphasized that they will delve more into the complexity of Kendra as the antagonist. “Mas ipapaliwang din dito kung saan ‘yung pinanggagalingan ng galit ni Kendra. Kung bakit gusto niya makuha ‘yung crown ni Lady Prima, bakit hindi niya ma-give-up ‘yung pagmamahal ni Jaime kahit na harap-harapan na sinasabi sa kanya na ‘hindi kita mahal.’ Lahat iyon, malinaw at inisa-isa namin dito sa Book 2.”

This original series is headed by the SVP for Entertainment Group Lilybeth G. Rasonable, VP for Drama Cheryl Ching-Sy, Senior Program Manager Redgynn S. Alba and Executive Producer Erwin Hilado.

The show’s award-winning creative team is composed of Creative Director Aloy Adlawan; Creative Unit Head Dode Cruz; Creative Consultant Kit Langit; Concept Creator Maria Zita Garganera; Headwriter Luningning Interino-Ribay; writers Renato Custodio, Jr., Kenneth Angelo Enriquez, and Wiro Michael Ladera.

Be enthralled once again with the Claveria Family as the show will take viewers back to the first season with recap episodes from January 17 to 21, Mondays to Saturdays, after “Eat Bulaga.” Fresh episodes of Prima Donnas Book 2 begins on January 24 on GMA Afternoon Prime.

Viewers abroad can also catch the program via GMA Pinoy TV.

Filipino singer-songwriter Clara Benin honors memories on her single ‘blink’

Filipino singer-songwriter Clara Benin honors memories on her single ‘blink’

Claire Benin

Clara Benin, after gaining recognition in the Southeast Asian region with the release of “Suara Hati,” a reimagining of her 2015 acoustic ballad in Bahasa Indonesia,  conquers music on her own terms with her brand-new single “blink”— now out on all digital music platforms worldwide via OFFMUTE.

On her first original single under the international record label, the Filipino singer-composer honors memories like it’s a fundamental aspect of human nature. She finds refuge in reliving the past without any hint of regret, treating it as part of her personal journey.

Clara Benin related in a statement: “I had a series of sleepless nights just recollecting and reliving different times of my life. Some were peaceful times. Some were turbulent times. Some were traumatic times. I didn’t really understand why these memories were resurfacing in my head. Writing ‘blink’ just helped me resolve these thoughts.”

Sprawling past the three-minute mark, “blink” propels Benin’s songwriting to compelling new heights. The track is deceptively simple by standards, but its introspective quality, paired with an incredibly moving arrangement, ups the stakes on a purely artistic level.

She added: “I particularly wanted this song to be a sonic journey that is metaphorical to one’s journey towards healing. This song is very intimate with my vocals and the acoustic guitar upfront but there are a lot of atmospheric undertones to it if you listen intently.”

The song features gifted multi-instrumentalist Gabba Santiago on drums and electronic musician The Ringmaster on production duties. Breathing so much life into the song, both Gabba and The Ringmaster display unassuming brilliance with subtlety and character—all while giving Benin’s voice an opportunity to flutter and soar.

“Aside from The Ringmaster, I got Gabba Santiago to play the drums,” the 27-year-old hitmaker said. “I enjoy working with Gabba and The Ringmaster because I feel like they really understood my vision for blink.”

The release of “blink” is accompanied by a lyric video made by Clara Benin herself. A music video directed by Josh Elefan will be released sometime in February next year.

Check out Clara Benin’s “blink” on all digital music platforms via OFFMUTE.

‘Eat Bulaga’ renews contract with GMA

By Crispina M. Belen

‘Eat Bulaga’ renews contract with GMA

GMA Network Executives with TAPE Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Antonio P. Tuviera during Eat Bulaga's contract renewal on GMA-7“Eat Bulaga,” the country’s longest-running noontime variety show led by the triumvirate of Tito Sotto, Vic Sotto & Joey de Leon (collectively and durably called Tito, Vic & Joey), renewed its contract with GMA Network on January 11, 2022, and with it, viewers are certainly assured to have a daily staple of  “Isang libo’t Isang tuwa!” for another year.

And as gleaned from the Zoom mediacon, especially from the enthusiasm of the hosts, they can stay till forever, for as long as they are able to make happy both the young and the old with their comic, encouraging and relevant content and style.

It’s the 43rd year of “Eat Bulaga” but if we are to consider the start of the partnership of the well-loved Tito, Vic & Joey, it should be their 50th anniversary this year since they started working together in 1972. But this will be another event to mark or celebrate appropriately, Tito Sen said. It is recalled that the three of them were in several shows before “Eat Bulaga.”

What accounts for their durability? “Maybe because we have a very good grasp on the pulse of the viewers – what they like and do not like.”

The show has been around for more than four decades, with their mission to “magpasaya” in tact and stronger than ever. But don’t the hosts ever felt burnt-out doing the show day in and day out?

Tito Sen said no, “parang therapy ko ito, pag may problema, it gives me new strength. Foundation ko ito, since I ran for Vice Mayor of Quezon City. But maybe I don’t feel burnt-out because eversince I went into public service, madalas ako absent sa show, bihira na ako bumabalik for obvious reason…”

According to Vic and Joey, “di naman problema ang burnt-out. Basta ineenjoy mo ang ginagawa mo, you won’t feel burnt-out…” This is also the sentiment of the other hosts, like Jose Manalo, Jimmy Santos, Allan K and Ryan Agoncillo and Wally Bayola who even stressed “kahit anong mangyari, tuloy ang ligaya!” They are obviously united in their intention –  “tuloy ang misyon ng Eat Bulaga na magpasaya!”

Amidst the challenges of the times, social media did a lot in favor of “Eat Bulaga.” Not  just as a tool but a learning experience. Because of social media’s comprehensiveness, it widened the connection of the show to the people, the dabarkads out there.

What has “Eat Bulaga” done to its hosts?

Paul Luna: “Well, dito na ako nagkaasawa at nagkapamilya. I got to meet a lot of people from all walks of life, with various degrees of success. Not everyone is given the opportunity to learn from other people…”

Ryan Agoncillo: “It was one of the best decisions I ever made in my life to join ‘Eat Bulaga,’ which has one of the most stable platforms as a show, and especially for one like me who was starting my family then. ” Ryan has been with “Eat Bulaga” for 13 years.

Alden Richards: “What ‘Eat Bulaga’ has done for me is life-changing. Ang daming nangyaring maganda sa buhay ko. How they took good care of me.  I’m so grateful na inalagaan ako dito. Dito ko natutunan na huwag maging maramot sa kapwa.” Alden has been with the show for seven fruitful years.

In conclusion, let’s not forget that “habang may bata at matanda, may “EAT BULAGA!”

Robin Padilla vows support for Mayor Mamay’s plans and projects for Nunungan

By Crispina M. Belen

Robin Padilla vows support for Mayor Mamay’s plans and projects for Nunungan

Mamay and Robin

December 21 turned out to be a momentous day for the people of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte as they were visited by accomplished actor-turned politician Robin Padilla, who vowed to support Mayor Marcos Mamay’s plans and projects for his municipality which underwent transformation in peace and order and progress under the mayor’s governance in so short a time.

In addition, Robin Padilla also vowed support to the projected Mt. Inayawan Range National Park and Nunungan Lake Development.

At the press conference held for Robin Padilla and Mayor Mamay which started with the actor saying  a short but meaningful prayer of peace and blessings for the people of Nunungan, Mayor Mamay  said “I am so grateful and overwhelmed by Robin’s visit to Nunungan.”

The well-loved actor related that he was supposed to go first to another place in Mindanao, but Governor Dimaporo encouraged Robin to go directly to Nunungan, now considered part of Asian heritage. It was a decision he won’t ever regret, considering what he described on his first day alone in the place.

He said, he liked the freshness of the air, and later in the night, the moon lent more ambience to the place. He imbibed peace, he said. “Ang sarap ng pakiramdam ko dito. Ang mga lugar na ito ang dapat at kailangan suportahan. Papalarin man ako o hindi sa kandidatura ko, suportahan ko pa rin si Mayor Mamay sa mga plano niya at proyekto para sa Nunungan.” Robin specially mentioned “na kung papalarin ako, marami ako maitutulong dito especially sa electrification which I will definitely support.”

Also noting with pride the fact that Nunungan is an Asian heritage, that even more needs everyone’s support, Robin said “Ang sa akin, ang lugar na walang kultura ay parang ampaw – na walang laman!” as he added that “ang kuwento ng Moro ay kuwento ng Pilipinas.”

Robin has also noted that environmental laws to protect the natural resources of Nunungan are also being enforced (for one, there is no illegal logging in the place) and for this Robin proudly admitted “inspiration ko kayo.”

Speaking about support, Mayor Mamay acknowledged humbly that he could not have achieved anything without the support of the national government especially President Duterte and members of his cabinet.

For the benefit and information of Robin Padilla: Mayor Mamay has been highly acknowledged for his achievements as town executive, for propelling Nunungan to what it is today – free of its decades of misrule, mismanagement and systematic diversion of resources, among others. For this, Mayor Mamay has received various awards and commendations in recognition of his efforts to transform Nunungan into its current state of greatness.

In 2017, Nunungan received the “Most Promising Municipality of the Philippines Award” from the Manila Times and the Peace Award given by the United Nations-SPMUDA. In 2018, Nunungan was recognized as the First Drug-Free Municipality in Region 10, and Mayor Mamay was named Ambassador of Peace by the Universal Peace Federation of Professors of the World Peace Academy; and he was also awarded as “Most Outstanding and Trusted Mayor and Public Servant Advocate of the Year.”

Mayor Mamay was also a Gawad Amerika Awardee as “Most Outstanding Filipino in the Field of Public Service,” and in 2019, he was given a “World Peace Award” in Bangkok, Thailand. In the Gintong Parangal 2021, held at the Manila Hotel,  he was recognized as “Outstanding Public Servant and Advocate of Good Governance of the Year,” and for his “Outstanding Performance in COVID Response for LGU.”

Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes plays dual role for the very first time

By Crispina M. Belen

Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes plays dual role for the very first time

2020 Seoul International Drama Awards Asian Star Prize and Kapuso Primetime King Dingdong Dantes is back on GMA Telebabad as he portrays for the very first time a dual role in the latest installment of the hit GMA drama anthology, “I Can See You: AlterNate.”

The new miniseries, airing on January 10, narrates the story of a refined man whose marriage will be tested when his wife TV unknowingly cheats with someone who looks completely like him and is apparently his long-lost twin brother.

“Isa ito sa mga pinakamahirap na nagawa ko talaga. Hindi lang siguro sa trabaho ko bilang artista pero sa buhay din in general dahil ang daming elemento na kaakibat ng experience na ito. Isa na diyan, first time ko na maka-experience ng mahabang lock-in taping and be away from my family for 30 days,” said Dingdong who plays identical twins Nate and Michael.

“Plus, the fact na mahirap yung role. Pero iyon din naman iyong hinihingi ko sa sarili ko kapag pumipili at nagko-commit ako sa isang bagay, ‘yung sana mas mahirap ‘to kaysa sa mga nagawa ko na in the past, in order to challenge myself as an actor. All other elements combined, yung hirap na ‘yun nag pay-off naman. Lumabas kami sa taping bubble nang very fulfilled dahil we were able to tell a compelling story in the context of a very challenging time,” he added.

Joining the stellar cast of “I Can See You: AlterNate” are dramatic actress Beauty Gonzalez as Sheila, Nate’s wife; seasoned actress Jackie Lou Blanco as Carmencita, Nate’s foster mother; versatile actress Joyce Ching as Angie, Michael’s younger sister; and acclaimed actor and director Ricky Davao as Lyndon, Nate’s foster father.

Esteemed Kapuso director Dominic Zapata, who helms the compelling miniseries, praised both Dingdong and Beauty for their acting dynamics. “This is the first time Dingdong and Beauty met and worked with each other. But since ganoon yung acumen nila sa kanilang craft, kaya nilang magbatuhan ng linya on zoom, tapos kapag in-person na they allow it to organically form habang nangyayari yung eksena. It gets even better as the day progresses. Iyon ‘yung masarap panoorin. In fact, by the end of the lock-in, kahit ang hirap ng taping, nabitin ako. Kasi na-enjoy ko talaga. Hindi siya dumali in terms of the amount of work, but it’s just so enjoyable you forget na napapagod ka. If there’s a lot of joy and love, it shows in the work. Definitely, this is one of those projects where it’s evident.”
