And in celebration of this momentous event in his political career Mayor Marcos, tendered a dinner press conference last Saturday (October 1) at the Cafe Claus in Tandang Sora, Quezon City.

Invited were members of the press and media who are close to Mayor Mamay, some young movie stars, and TV and movie directors including Neal Buboy Tan, Jimmy Concepcion and Danni Ugali. One of the special guests was producer/publisher Baby F. Go. It is recalled that it was Mayor Mamay’s actor son who introduced the mayor to Ms. Go when they were both Gawad Amerika Awardees in the US.

Aside from being the newly elected Vice President of the the League of the Municipal Mayors of the Philippines (LMP),

Mayor Mamay is also the adviser of the Actors Guild of the Philippines (KAPPT),  the Showbiz Industry Alliance, club adviser of the SINAG Elite Lady Eagles Club – Southern Tagalog Region IX, and national adviser of Bantay Bayan Foundation.

The event was also in celebration of the birthday of actor EJ Malik.

Also at the mediacon was Ken Chan, who’s one of the owners of Cafe Claus, and who we used to write about when he was doing movie and TV projects with Rita Daniela. A representative of NET25, tabloid and broadsheet writers were also spotted avidly interviewing the popular and well-loved town executive.

This is Mayor Mamay’s last term as town executive of Nunungan, Lanao del Norte, and his son might run to replace him. It is recalled that the mayor that he replaced ruled Nunungan for 30 years, and left it almost devastated with graft and corruption as his legacy. When Mayor Mamay took over, he propelled the town towards prosperity, with peace and order reigning supreme.

When Mayor Mamay steps down as mayor of Nunungan, he intends to produce movies, in order to provide jobs to his people and to workers of the movie industry. He already has lined-up four movies, including one entitled “Lanao” which will be directed by Neal Buboy Tan. He also has a movie starring good friend Senator Robin Padilla, who has visited Nunungan in the past.

Asked how he differentiates politics from show business, Mayor Mamay said “pareho silang mahirap gawin at di nawawalan ng intriga. Ang importante, quality ang service, lalo na sa movies, kasi kung di maganda, walang manonood, hindi kikita ang pelikula. Dapat magaling din umarte ang mga artista.”

He wants to produce four movies, “but not at the same time. Kailangan dito, magandang time management. Kasi kahit gaano pa kadami ang trabahong gusto mong gawin, basta alam mo i-manage oras mo, you will succeed at marami ka matutulongan na tao na nangangailangan ng pagkakakitaan…”
