Present during the contract signing: (L-R) John L. Andal, Cignal TV Inc. CFO; Robert P. Galang, Cignal TV Inc. and TV5 President and CEO; Gretchen Ho; Erickson C. Raymundo, Cornerstone President; and Jeffrey M. Vadillo, Cornerstone Vice President.

Just recently, Cignal TV and TV5 revealed in a virtual mediacon that star athlete, TV host, and celebrity advocate Gretchen Ho is the newest face to join the Kapatid Network’s growing roster of artists. As she expressed excitement and gratitude over this latest feat in her professional career, network executives and fellow news anchors equally gave the “Woman in Action” a warm welcome.

Among others, during the virtual mediacon, Gretchen said she would like to combine infotainment with public service in her hosting chores. About her show “Woman in Action,” she said “I really want to help and reach out to people in need.” Initially, she just wanted to give away 50 bicycles to those in need of it, but so far she has donated about a thousand, thanks to those who helped her out in this advocacy. “There are many possibilities opened for this show,” she stressed.

February 1 marks Gretchen’s TV comeback as she co-anchors “The Big Story” with Roby Alampay from Monday to Friday at 8pm on One News, where she will be showcasing her versatility as a news presenter. She will also be joining TV5’s primetime newscast “Frontline Pilipinas.” Gretchen also brings a lot of heart and a spirit of giving and service as she produces and stars in “Woman in Action,” the TV counterpart of her current advocacy of the same name, launching on Cignal TV’s One News and One PH soon.

“As we continue to strengthen our image as an innovator and as a network that is open to the best talents in the industry, we know that Gretchen Ho is a perfect fit to embody our vision of reaching out to a wider audience across various platforms,” said Robert P. Galang, CEO and President of Cignal and TV5. “She has noteworthy influence among the youth as a well-known TV personality, and her advocacies have also extended her goodwill to underprivileged Filipinos. We are honored to introduce the multi-talented and multifaceted ‘Woman in Action’ as the newest member of our growing Cignal TV and TV5 family.”

“Woman in Action”  was launched in April last year and has become Gretchen’s own brand and online platform. Driven by an active lifestyle of discovery through sports, adventure, and public service, Gretchen represents a new generation of bright young talents who are using their platform to elevate causes bigger than themselves. Her advocacy efforts have helped those struggling to go to work during the height of the lockdown and have opened the public’s consciousness on the benefits of biking in the country through her “Donate A Bike, Save A Job” campaign.

The #DonateABikeSaveAJob movement has provided hundreds of bicycles to the most vulnerable during the height of COVID-19 pandemic in the Philippines. Aside from bringing livelihood to people affected by the pandemic, beneficiaries from this campaign also included Typhoon Rolly victims in Cagayan Valley and the metro and coastal areas of Naga, Camarines Sur.

Through her active advocacies and accomplishments, Gretchen’s passion to create a culture of positivity makes her a perfect fit with her new Cignal TV and TV5 family, with their corporate vision anchored on challenging traditional ways, finding synergies to make greater impact, and always moving forward.

Fun-filled shows set to premiere on TV5

Brightlight MediaCon Wednesday Evite_edited

Viewers of TV5 are certainly agog over fun-filled shows slated to premiere one after the other, courtesy of  blocktimers of the network, among them Brightlight Productions.

One of them is  “Sunday Kada,” an upcoming comedy show directed by Edgar Mortiz, set to be launched on Sunday, October 18 from 3-4pm. Promising a full-laughter Sunday viewing, the show features Jayson Gainza, Ritz Azul, Wacky Kiray, Miles Ocampo, Daniel Matsunaga, Jerome Ponce, Josh Colet, Sunshine Garcia, Jhen Maloles, and Badji Mortiz. The show will air every Sunday.

The show marks the return of Ritz Azul to TV5 where she started. Asked how she felt about going back to TV5, Ritz said “masaya ako na nakabaik where I started because when I became a Kapamilya, I did not naman burn my bridge sa TV5. Dun ako lumaki sa ABS-CBN where I made many shows. So it’s like nag-college ako, then umuwi ako.

“Masaya ako na may mga ganitong show pa rin tayo sa gitna ng pandemya, na may oportunidad pa rin na magtrabaho…at natutuwa ako sa tiwala na binibigay nila sa amin.” She said she has no special segment in the show. “Everyone is given a share of the spotlight, pantay-pantay kami.”

Like Ritz, Wacky Kiray is excited and happy over the chance to have work amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. “Masuerte pa rin kami, lalo na sa akin kasi wala na mga comedy bars kaya ang oportunidad na ito malaking bagay. At masaya ang show na ito. Binabasa pa lang namin ang script, sobra-sobra na tawanan namin. We exert team effort para mapaganda ang show.”

Among the rest, Wacky felt doubly lucky because he is also in “Lunch Out Loud,” which premieres on October 19, from 12nn-2pm on TV5 and airs from Monday to Saturday.

“LOL,” a noontime variety show has in its cast Billy Crawford, Alex Gonzaga, K Brosas, Bayani Agbayani, KC Montero and Macoy Dubs. A

Billy said the show offers a lot of fun and surprises via its games and contests which gives viewers at home the chance of winning.

He added that he feels so blessed to be working at this time and that he’s very thankful to TV5 for tapping him to be part of  “LOL” which he describes as a “high energy show, whose every segment is super masaya.”

With this daily show, will Billy be affected in his duties as a family man? He and Çoleen Garcia are now parents. Billy said it will just be a matter of time management, especially when his wife decide to get back to work in the near future..

But at the moment, this isn’t a bother yet for Billy, knowing that Çoleen is so serious in her mother role. “Saludo ako kay Çoleen, she breastfeed our baby and is really serious in her motherly obligations. “But when she decides to go back to work, I won’t get on the her way,” Billy stressed.

KC Montero is also very excited about being in “Lunch Out Loud,” and not only because it affords him the time to be working with his friend Billy. Having been a host of beauty pageants and other big events for 20 years, he said this is a different experience, this noontime show. “It gives me a different feel, this is very exciting, a lot of fun.”

‘Bigger and better Ber months’ with TV5’s new shows

Last August, Cignal TV and TV5 Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan opened the doors of his network to displaced workers in the entertainment industry, a clear and generous way of saying that the priorities of the network is to give a helping hand and keep afloat people affected by the pandemic.

Chairman Pangilinan said “We are revving up our entertainment content creation and will need creatives, talents, directors, scriptwriters, cameramen etc.” And soon after his open invitation, several blocktime deals were signed up and shows now in production feature many popular stars in addition to their own roster of talents.

TV5’s programming partner and major block timer, Cignal TV, is buoyed up by an influx of new and familiar faces the likes of Piolo Pascual, Korina Sanchez, Aga Muhlach, Ian Veneracion, Billy Crawford, Matteo Guidicelli, Maja Salvador, Sue Ramirez, Dimples Romana, Alex Gonzaga, and Catriona Gray in their new shoes.

“TV5 has something for everybody. We aim to deliver a fresh new perspective at how audiences enjoy the network’s entertainment, news and sports programs,” enthuses Robert P. Galang, President, and CEO of Cignal TV and TV5. “The new program line-up does not only set the bar higher for innovativeness and production values but also reinforces TV5’s vision to become a formidable force in Philippine television as it continues to challenge traditional programming standards and reinvigorate the network’s adaptability to survive and thrive in this pandemic and beyond,” he added.

One of the network’s most recent block time partners, Brightlight Productions will be airing new shows on the channel beginning October 18. Its President and CEO, former Rep. Albee Benitez, urged the halt of network wars, sharing that “it’s time that all of us should work together. Right now, I don’t think there should be a network war.” He also mentions that stars should be given flexibility and be allowed to take on work where it is available. “I think that should be our landscape moving forward,” he concluded.

Earlier, Archangel Media launched its slew of programs and its president, Michael Tuviera has this to say: “We at Archangel Media are absolutely honored to be working in partnership with Cignal TV and TV5. With the uncertainty that is clouding our industry and the whole world right now, it is so encouraging to collaborate with other like-minded individuals and groups who share the same goals as we do. We all want to create more jobs out there for our hard-working brethren in the industry. We all want to create content that will not only entertain but provoke and inspire as well. We all want to help make our industry, our country, and our world, a better place than it was yesterday.

Together with Cignal TV and TV5, Archangel Media is proud to be pushing forth in what we hope is a new age in Philippine Television – where unity and collaboration take precedence over competition, where the focus will continue to be on the audience who lend their eyes and ears to the stories we tell, and where, as before and always – Content is King.”

Viva, who has a long-standing partnership with Cignal TV, thru its president and COO, Vincent del Rosario said “We’re very happy that Viva’s partnership with Cignal and TV5 has been going strong, given that our joint venture company, SSNI, is now on it’s 5th year.  I guess what makes it fun working with the group is the collaborative nature of the relationship where each side has an equal say on the creative direction to take in every project.

As for the effect that this will bring to the industry, we believe that this will not only bring some parity in the network wars, but will also open more job opportunities for the artists and the creative and production communities.”

With Cignal TV continuing to forge new partnerships and collaborations, TV5 can definitely promise bigger and better -BER months in store for its viewers in the last quarter. With new programs and new stars joining the fray, there is truly much to look forward to. Some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry have shared their sentiments of feeling blessed and grateful to be working again; proving that life is indeed brighter when we come together to carry out a single mission: to give hope, excitement, and inspiration to Filipinos.
