‘Langyang Pag-ibig,’ Ben&Ben’s latest single under Sony Music Philippines

Photo-08The inevitable disintegration of a romantic relationship is articulated in “Langyang Pag-ibig,” Ben&Ben’s latest single under Sony Music Philippines. In essence, the song bares one’s feelings of “being betrayed in all its aching messiness and honesty.”

The nine-piece Filipino collective has written a song that is described to wade through a bad break-up with the stinging anger of someone struggling to put their life back on track.

Arranged with classic rock bigness and percussive elements, the song packs a devastating punch with a chorus that articulates one’s feelings of being betrayed.

“It’s the song where we flexed our musicality the most,” says the acclaimed band. “It’s three songs in one song, but it still sounds like one song.”

“Langyang Pag-ibig” is recorded at Spryta Studios, the same place where Ben&Ben recorded the entirety of their multi-platinum debut album, Limasawa Street. It was produced by Ben&Ben and Jean Paul Verona, mixed by Sam Marquez and Verona, and mastered by Leon Zervos.

“We’ve always wanted to make a song with this vibe, and we think the songwriting in itself begged for it,” shares the chart-topping folk-pop group in a statement. “It helped that Jean Paul and Sam were very familiar with the vibe we were going for and that helped create the general mood and sound we wanted for Langyang Pag-ibig.”

According to the band, “Langyang Pag-ibig” was approached in the familiar way their songs were recorded. They jammed it first a couple of times, and arranged it together slowly as if building a house of cards. “We also balanced elements and see how high we could take the themes,” adds the band.

Ben&Ben’s “Langyang Pag-ibig” is out now on all streaming platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines.

Nag-try rin kami mag-vlog para may aabangan sila [XOldier] sa aming Youtube channel.”

Denise Barbacena (1)Known for her comedic talent, versatile Kapuso actress Denise Barbacena shares her musical side in her latest single titled “Last Thing I’d Do” under GMA Playlist.

“’Last Thing I’d Do’ is a love song. It could be a love toward a special someone, a family member, or even the love we feel during a spiritual journey. The listener can interpret it however they want because it’s about love and there are so many ways of showing love,” said Denise.

The new song took months in the making as Denise first heard it at the height of the pandemic.

“When I first heard the song, it was during the middle of the pandemic. Everyone was so uncertain about what’s going to happen, parang everyone felt hopeless and there’s so much negativity on the internet and in the outside world because we were locked in. So nung na-pitch siya sa akin, I was moved. Na-touch ako na in a long while, I haven’t felt that, I haven’t felt warmth in a long time from a song. So, this is what I want to share out there, to offer something na may love and hope. I want them to feel what I felt when I first heard it,” Denise added.

The song also released its official music video on GMA Playlist’s YouTube channel featuring Kapuso actor Anjay Anson as Denise’s leading man. It exudes Denise’s jolly personality while showing relatable scenarios that happen in a relationship.

NCT DREAM Headlines ‘Begin Again: KPOP Edition’ concert at the Smart Araneta Coliseum  on May 29!

Bagin Again 1

Filipino K-Pop fans are surely rejoicing as four of the biggest South Korean acts are slated to visit Manila for “Begin Again: KPOP Edition” taking place on May 29, 2022, 5pm at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.  Fans are sure to have a blast with NCT DREAM, SHINee’s KEY, WEi, and ALICE performing their latest hit songs on the Philippine stage.

NCT DREAM will be headlining the show, coming on the heels of their widely successful album “Glitch Mode,” released last March. NCT DREAM has recently wrapped promotions after selling an impressive two million albums. This makes them a double million-seller for two consecutive years—a feat only a handful of groups have achieved!

Seemingly a magnet for historic achievements, NCT DREAM is set to tick another one on its checklist. Back in 2020, the group was the last to hold a live concert in the Philippines before the COVID-19 lockdown. Now, they’ll be one of the first international artists to perform live again after two years. Needless to say, NCT DREAM is making dreams come true with their return to the country.

Performing alongside the group is labelmate KEY, lead dancer, and lead rapper of SHINee. In 2018, KEY made his solo debut with the single “Forever Yours,” which he quickly followed up with a full studio album titled “Face.” The album peaked at No. 5 on Korea’s Gaon Chart and snagged a top 10 entry on the US World Albums Chart.

September last year, KEY released his first mini-album “Bad Love,” which earned him another top entry on the Gaon Chart. The titular track also enjoyed commercial and critical success with its Music Core win and The Ringer naming it the Best KPOP Song of 2021.

WEi, a six-member boy group from OUI Entertainment, is also joining in the fun. Though only debuting 2 years ago, the group is no stranger to the limelight. Members DAE HYEON, DONG HAN, YONG HA, YO HAN, SEOK HWA, and JUN SEO have different charms, and as a fourth-generation youth icon, WEi is loved by domestic and international fans.

In March of this year, the group released their fourth mini-album “Love Pt.1: First Love” with “Too Bad” as the main title. The album sold more than 100,000 copies and placed at number five on Korea’s Gaon Chart.

Last but definitely not the least is ALICE, consisting of members EJ, Do-A, Chaejeong, Yeonjae, Yukyung, Sohee, and Karin. In 2018, the group was named the Best Rookie Group at the 24th Korean Entertainment Arts Awards. Fresh off the May 4 release of their latest single “Power of Love,” these fearsome femmes are ready to wow on the stage.

The two-hour concert marks the first live KPOP show in the country since the COVID-19 lockdown. Don’t miss this historic event and come see talented artists on one stage.

Heaven Peralejo stars as a vampire in the music video for Sponge Cola’s single

Heaven Peralejo stars as a vampire in the music video for Sponge Cola’s single

KAPTI SS 1

Interestingly, Filipino actress Heaven Peralejo stars as a deeply conflicted vampire on the music video of Sponge Cola’s “Kung Ako Ang Pumiling Tapusin Ito”—the new single dropped ahead of their full-length album to be released in 2022.

The music video shows Heaven on the verge of a domestic breakdown as she adjusts to a life of uncertainty and fear from the sunlight.

“It was a treat meeting and working with Heaven Peralejo,” drummer Tedmark Cruz shares in a statement. “Being part of a project or shoot with the nicest people just makes everyone’s jobs a lot easier.”

Budding filmmaker Lamar Roque directed the music video, which serves as an allegorical take on walking away from an unhealthy, toxic relationship and finding the courage to love yourself. Despite the several changes in terms of shoot dates, the production team headed by Lamar covered all the bases, and made sure that it went smoothly as planned.

“It took almost a year with all the lockdowns and delays,” vocalist Yael Yuzon said. “Direk Lamar and his team did a great job capturing the gravitas while adhering to all safety measures during the shoot. It was a long logistical juggling act that must have added to the weight of the end product. We’re mighty proud of the visual masterpiece.”

“Kung Ako Ang Pumiling Tapusin Ito” was written by vocalist/guitarist Yael Yuzon, with additional parts from bassist Gosh Dilay. According to Yael, he penned the song from the perspective of the one who leaves the relationship. “Walking away, cutting clean is theoretically easy but usually isn’t. Whether it’s comfort and familiarity, an inability to be alone or whatnot, most people who leave find themselves circling back which isn’t something people tend to focus on since we usually think of the ones left behind.”

The song was produced by constant collaborator Joey Santos, whom the band has worked with on previous singles “Siguro Nga,” “Labis-labis” and “Alamat,” the Mobile Legends Bang Bang 5th Anniversary track. The alt-rock quartet aims for a minimalist, ambient, but very punctuated approach in doing a ballad, and with Joey’s expertise in conveying the band’s vision for the sound design, everything turned out better than expected.

As Ted puts it, “Working with Joey Santos has been wonderful. From file sharing over Google Drive, to creating a dedicated WhatsApp/Telegram group, to recording and doing online shows, and most recently traveling to Dubai, I believe we’ve bonded very well. And boy are we all excited to share the sound we’ve come up with in this latest album with you all.”

“Kung Ako Ang Pumiling Tapusin Ito” is out now on all digital music platforms worldwide via Sony Music Philippines.

Princess Velasco releases latest single entitled ‘Ang Ating Pag-ibig’

Princess Velasco (2)A relationship that can weather every storm is every couple’s dream and promise to their significant other.

For OPM Acoustic Princess and Kapuso singer Princess Velasco, this vow is immortalized in her latest single under GMA Music, “Ang Ating Pag-ibig,” released last November 19.

Written by her husband Mark Herbert Rosario in 2013 as a gift on their wedding day, Princess felt that the message of the song is worth sharing to the world, whether you’re a couple in love or an individual feeling the love from family and friends.

“The song was written by my husband in 2013. The first and only time it was performed in public was during our wedding. It was his surprise to me. Una ko siyang narinig nung wedding reception namin. The song is not just about us. It’s about love. It’s about finding the person you’ve been praying for, waiting for, and the promise to stay with that person despite anything that the world or universe throws your way,” Princess said.

Princess also explained that her contribution to the song is the second verse. It was her answer to her husband’s words and melody.

“Parang sinagot ko lang ang words niya. Before I presented it to GMA Music, I recorded it with my guitar and sent it to him and sobra siyang natuwa. I’m sure a lot of people can relate to it kasi ‘pag nahanap mo ang ganung klaseng pag-ibig and kapag pinakasalan mo ang tao na ‘yun and the commitment is there, you can weather any storm and I want to share that with others,” she said.

Filled with melodies of love, the song takes Princess back to her wedding day when she was standing by the church door ready to walk the aisle and marry her husband.

“Naalala ko ang moment na nasa labas ako ng pintuan ng simbahan tapos hindi ako makahinga and kinakabahan ako. Ganun ang nafi-feel ng bride, excited ka na kinakabahan na hindi mo maintindihan. It’s a day I will never forget. It’s one of the best days of my life. Hindi perfect ang marriage namin and I am really thankful to God na because of our love and our commitment, we now have three beautiful children,” says Princess who is a wonderful mother to Kobe, Milo, and Sari.

Princess considers “Ang Ating Pag-ibig” as not just a song for your husband or wife but a song for your loved one, whether it’s your child, your parents, or your friend.

“Ang Ating Pag-ibig” is now available on Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, and other digital stores worldwide.

Bianca Umali releases heartbreak single ‘Itigil Mo Na’

Bianca UmaliAccomplished Kapuso actress and “Legal Wives” star Bianca Umali once more proves her singing talent via a moving heartbreak song entitled “Itigil Mo Na.” This was released under GMA Music last Thursday, September 30.

In addition to her acting prowess, Bianca is also making a name for herself in the music scene. Her debut track “Kahit Kailan” was nominated at the 34th Awit Awards for “Best Performance for a New Female Recording Artist” and ‘“Best Engineered Recording.”

“Itigil Mo Na” paints the sad and cyclic unrequited love story familiar to Filipinos in a soothing and groovy musical arrangement of modern sensibilities. It is about a girl who’s falling for a guy who is in love with someone else.

Both cinematic and good for easy listening, the song was written by award-winning writer-director-singer-songwriter Njel de Mesa.

Through its heartfelt lyrics, Bianca hopes to give comfort to those experiencing heartaches, saying “The message of the song is that nagkakaroon talaga ng mga pagkakataon na sobra-sobra tayong magmamahal, to the point na hindi na natin kayang i-let go ‘yung taong mahal natin, kahit na hirap na hirap na at ang sakit-sakit na. To those experiencing heartbreaks, okay lang ‘yan. Normal lang ‘yan. Wag natin lalabanan o tatakbuhan ang hirap at sakit. Kailangan natin mapagdaanan at tiisin lahat yan, dahil ito ang huhubog sa atin na maging mas mabuti, mas matibay at mas matapang na tao. Worth it lahat ng sakit, trust me.”

Currently, Bianca is starring in the top-rating GMA primetime series “Legal Wives”  and is gearing up for HBO’s “Halfworlds.”

Tune in to “Itigil Mo Na” on Spotify, YouTube Music, Apple Music, and other digital stores worldwide.

At the virtual mediacon, Sony Music said OFFMUTE gives emerging recording artists across all genres an opportunity to develop their own music and follow their creative vision. The new label will support Southeast Asian artists in amplifying their music and building a strong pan-regional audience base through enhanced promotional, marketing and artist development, drawn from Sony Music’s global expertise and resources.

“OFFMUTE is a first-of-its-kind label in this part of the world, embracing the eclectic appeal and rich diversity that Southeast Asia has to offer, empowering artists with the resources and expertise to find success in a diverse region,” said Shridhar Subramaniam, President, Strategy and Market Development, Asia and Middle East, Sony Music Entertainment. “That offering is compelling for a new generation of artists in the region and we’re excited to help these artists fulfil their potential in the years to come.”

Ariel Fung, Executive Vice President of Sony Music Southeast Asia, expresses his enthusiasm on the label’s attempt to solidify its foothold in the global music industry. “I am so excited to see the launch of OFFMUTE which embraces different genres of artists with their unique culture and style, and with the potential of cross-border success.”

NEW OFFMUTE ARTISTS FROM PHILIPPINES, INDONESIA AND MALAYSIA

OFFMUTE also announced recently three new signings for the label: acclaimed Philippine singer-songwriter Clara Benin; Indonesian alt-pop sensation Mezzaluna; and Malaysian recording star liesl-mae.

An acclaimed singer-songwriter in the Philippines, Clara Benin is renowned for her captivating songs that blend unspoken ruminations with commitment and depth. Amassing more than 25 million streams on combined music platforms Spotify and YouTube, Benin frequently headlines local and international music festivals, and won multiple awards including Wishclusive Contemporary Folk Performance of the Year for her song “I Rose up Slowly”.

Roslyn Pineda, General Manager, Sony Music Philippines, speaks of Benin’s potential to leave a mark with the international audience. “When my team and I discussed the vision for OFFMUTE, we immediately thought Clara Benin embodied what the label was all about,” Pineda reveals. “And it’s great that the other markets think so too.  With a Southeast Asian team supporting her, we’re thrilled that Clara’s moving vocals and introspective songwriting will reach new audiences across the region.”

Another addition to the OFFMUTE family is Mezzaluna, a talented and gifted singer-songwriter based in Indonesia who comes from strong musical lineage and quickly emerged as a standout artist with incredible achievements in her own right. With deep, soulful vocals and an intensely personal storytelling style, the 20-year-old alt-pop sensation marks her journey as a solo star capable of delivering inspiring and powerful songs with a universal reach. She will be releasing her debut single this year, which OFFMUTE will be amplifying across the region.

Malaysia’s liesl-mae completes the record label’s wide-ranging selection of music acts. Making waves in the Malaysian music scene with her soothing, almost-lullaby-like tunes, the recording star will now see her talent showcased across Southeast Asia through OFFMUTE. She plans to release her own music and collaborate with other artists under the new label, as well as harness her newfound platform to advocate for mental health education and awareness.

First ever ‘Inevitable Drone Show’ set Feb. 28

CELEBRITY WORLD PH

First ever ‘Inevitable Drone Show’ set Feb. 28

BBL-droneshow_TWT

An exciting and special show called  “The Inevitable Drone Show,” headlined by Ben&Ben, is set for Sunday, February 28 at 7pm. The first of it’s kind to feature a music performance with drone lights, it will illuminate the Manila skyline in a synchronized fashion.

To accompany the picturesque storytelling in the sky, Ben&Ben will perform an extended version of “Inevitable,” the song that was used as soundtrack and music score for Smart 5G’s romantic sci-fi TVC featuring  Korean superstars Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin.

Presented by SMART 5G, the eco-friendly and innovative show will give Rizal Park and nearby areas the rare experience to watch the modern light show LIVE. It will also simultaneously air on Ben&Ben’s official Facebook page.

In a recent virtual mediacon, Smart 5G detailed how they they achieved a casting coup – bringing together Korean superstars Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin – in a joint TVC, with Ben&Ben providing the background song “Inevitable.”

It wasn’t easy for Smart to bring together Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin in a TVC, them being today’s  very powerful celebrity couple, not only in Asia but globally. They are also the couple that best represents the power of the technology that they’re endorsing, which is 5G, Jane J. Basa, Smart SVP and head of Consumer Wireless Busibess,  said at the recent virtual mediacon.

Individually, it was already hard for Smart to hire them in separate campaigns in the past. But, Basa added that they at Smart want their subscribers to know “how much we love them. They asked for it” and so they did what seemed impossible, possible – bringing Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin in a joint project. And it turned out to be a casting coup!

While it was important for Smart to grant wishes of its subscribers when it comes to bringing consumers closer to their foreign idols, the latest Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin TVC presented an opportunity to put a Filipino band behind the soundtrack and musical scoring.

Here’s where Ben&Ben comes in, providing “Inevitable,” the song that is heard in the background while Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin pursue each other in this romantic-sci-fi TVC.

With lyrics inspired by real-life events, Ben&Ben members simply happen to be CLOY fans as well. In a collaboration set to motion by the band, Smart, and Sony Music, things started falling into place when it came to lending soundtrack and musical score for this collaborative campaign.

In an official statement released by Sony Music, lead singer Paolo Benjamin said, “Inevitable is a song that tries to describe the nature of fate, and how all our actions somehow lead us to some better place that is destined for us. It’s also a song about being real with someone, and that no matter how scary that may seem at times, there is freedom in baring your truest nature with someone dear to you, even if that someone is yourself.”

He also said “the chemistry was very natural between us and Smart because a lot of it was very serendipitous – we didn’t really force anything in terms of the creative process for the song and it just so happened that what Smart wanted to achieve was very much in line with what we wanted to pull off also as a band. It’s just like we both flowed in the same direction. So it’s really a beautiful partnership.”

On his part, Poch Barretto said: “The so g tells the story of two contrasting feelings: One that is of wonder and mystery of what kind of love this is, and the other is one of certainty as to the feeling that’s really true for the individual. The music we made around it just kind of highlighted those two contrasts working together to create that feeling that’s inevitable. So, it was a fun process we worked on and we’re really excited because Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin will be featured in the commercial with the song. So that’s like something for all of us – a super kilig moment!”

Basa added: “When we brought Hyun Bin into the Smart family, as well as Son Ye Jin, our business also grew. There’s a lot of challenges in the country right now but we were able to survive the pandemic and I think it’s really because we were able to bring in the brand LOVE during the time that we brought in the celebrity couple so it’s a very special journey for us…Part 2 of the commercial should be released soon and we’re planning some more things with Ben&Ben as well.”

From Miguel Benjamin, “The songwriting in itself presents a concept of the state that is both a surreal mystery and a peaceful certainty, so we wanted to create an aural representation of what these lyrics felt like. Our process started with a mix of acoustic guitars, which I tweaked with sitar effects as the main intro riff; kind of like a representation of the two contrasting feelings working together.”

About the Smart 5G Campaign

The TVC, which serves as a joint project top-billed by Korean drama stars Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin, is part of the new Smart 5G campaign to make what seemed impossible, possible.

From “The Captain Has Landed” to landing into each other’s arms, Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin took chemistry to a whole new level in the Smart 5G TVC as they chase each other on the road and through different dimensions only to meet again just as Bin asks, “Do you believe it’s possible?” To which Ye Jin replies, “I do!”

Smart has put together Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin together in one project for the first time much like the latest development with Smart 5G, which has started enabling subscribers to do groundbreaking things we thought we couldn’t do.

The TVC was even made more powerful thanks to Ben&Ben’s “Inevitable” complementing the top-tier material.
